{"id":20,"date":"2012-04-30T09:38:47","date_gmt":"2012-04-30T13:38:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mainstreetpens.com\/wordpress\/?p=20"},"modified":"2012-05-19T14:22:30","modified_gmt":"2012-05-19T18:22:30","slug":"why-some-vintage-pens-are-so-pristine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mainstreetpens.com\/wordpress\/?p=20","title":{"rendered":"Why some vintage pens are so pristine&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once in a while you run across a vintage pen that is pristine.\u00a0 I mean the pen is gorgeous, clean, crisp, no brassing, in the box, just as perfect as the day that it was shipped from the factory.\u00a0 How in the world did it stay that way?<\/p>\n<p>Robyn and I have a theory.\u00a0 We of course make allowances for things like the pen being NOS, from a store that closed with stock that wasn&#8217;t sold.\u00a0 It happens.\u00a0 But sometimes the pen has a name on it, or a note with the pen that says &#8220;from Madge to Pete with love,&#8221; or something like it.<\/p>\n<p>Then you put ink in the pen after restoring it, and put the nib to paper.\u00a0 YUCK!\u00a0 The thing scratches, it blobs, it (as one client so colorfully put it) writes like a chicken foot.\u00a0 It&#8217;s <em>awful!!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">That&#8217;s<\/span> why it lasted so long.\u00a0\u00a0 Someone in the nib department was having a bad day, and the thing was a terrible writer!\u00a0 It was tested (Thank you dear, it&#8217;s lovely!) and then put in drawer. (I&#8217;ll save it for special occasions, it&#8217;s too nice to carry every day).<\/p>\n<p>The theory was proven yet again with a pen that I just received with an extra fine nib.\u00a0 Some patient reshaping of the nib, smoothing, and all that and I have a great new pen.\u00a0 But why didn&#8217;t the original owner <em>say<\/em> something?\u00a0 Isn&#8217;t that what a warranty is for?<\/p>\n<p>Any one else have a story to support our theory?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once in a while you run across a vintage pen that is pristine.\u00a0 I mean the pen is gorgeous, clean, crisp, no brassing, in the box, just as perfect as the day that it was shipped from the factory.\u00a0 How in the world did it stay that way?
